Publications & Publicity
With increasing communication and transparency between the student body and the Students’ Council as the main aim for the committee, The Publications and Publicity Committee strives to be the medium through which this is achieved. The committee manages various platforms that stretch the creative and innovative boundaries of each and every committee member. Through platforms such as HCunite, the council notice board and also Hwa Chong’s very own in-house publication, MOCH (Hwa Chong’s Own Magazine), the 41st PubCo aims to support the council and its initiatives, hence reinforcing the council’s primary goal – to serve the student body.
Wong Wei Cong [Art Director]
Wishful at times, wistful at others, he treats all around him whole- and warm-heartedly every time, rain or shine. Beneath the calm and moony surface is an unbridled mind bursting with motley of ideas. Passionate in writing and taking utmost care in creating original ideas, he hopes to bring this imagination and devotion into Council. Having little artistic experience, his artistic philosophy simply involves a dose of common sense and a helping of orchestrated ‘non-sense’ – of unpredictable inspirations, of earnest feelings, and of unexpected results. Everything one can imagine is real, and he believes that art gives the soul the sustenance it needs to dream and create. Hwa Chong is like a family to him, and he genuinely wants to contribute to this family that has given him so much to love and remember. He hopes to make the moments here an eternal one for him and all around him.
Zhou Zhefang [Art Director]
Addressed by his close friends as ‘Jeff / 周导’, Zhefang is a very (over)active guy who is more than willing to help out things that he find fun in when he has the time. He likes to make friends and also engage in ‘meaningful’ conversations. Sometimes, he prefers to be in solitude where he can listen to music (of almost any genre) with his trusty earphones, and ponder about life at the same time. Loves contemporary art, filmmaking and perpetually any sport or game, but hates memorising lengthy essays. Just keep him in a happy mood and you’ll be making friends with him real fast! :D
Zhu Jiahua (Art Director]
Do not be fooled by Jiahua's expressionless face and menacing (?) height at first glance ----- he is actually just your average easy-going, friendly (and-sometimes-a-bit-awkward) guy. Although he may look sleepy/half-awake most of the time BUT HE IS ACTUALLY VERY AWAKE. It's just that he was *ahem* gifted with a pair of *ahem ahem* smaller eyes. Being appointed as the Art Director is making him a both nervous and excited at the same time, as although he really enjoys artsy stuff, he never really had any hands-on experience. BUT he will still do his best to churn out designs that will amaze others (and sometimes himself) in the term ahead. He also always constantly reminds himself to enjoy the fleeting moments in life, for sometimes, it's the little things in life that take up the most room in your heart.
Wang Peixuan [pubco Sec-Treas]
Peix to friends and lazy tongues. Very into freedom and equality. Occasionally suffers from bouts of neurosis. Enjoys vegetarian food and dark humor. Adores zombies and shooting them. Incredibly excited for the term ahead and exploring the infinities of design and innovation to uphold the spirit of PubCo. And as long there is still air in her lungs and blood running through her veins she will ceaselessly seek to fulfil the promises made and to serve her purpose of being in Hwa Chong, for Hwa Chong. Approach her at your own risk.
James Tung [Pubco chairperson]
A hard worker who tries his very best to be artsy, he has enjoyed doodling ever since he could pick up a pencil. His other hobbies include listening to whatever music that fits his mood while on the bus back home and just being active in general. Do not be deceived by his awkwardness and sleepiness as he is actually a really bubbly fellow who is full of enthusiasm. With this, he hopes to bring about refreshing and exciting changes to the school in as many ways possible! (:
Georgiana Ang [IT Director]
Georgiana (AKA georgie) can be a really awkward person when it comes to people she’s not really familiar with but once you get to know her, she can really be the definition of insanity!
Also, Georgie lives for food. Anyone who gives her (nice) food is her friend. :)
Li Jiawang [it Director]
An individual struggling between conformity and idealism, introvert and extrovert. He may appear as a joker when you first meet him, but if you get to know him better, you will discover that he is also very reflective and passionate. He enjoys music and hobo-ish walks along any part of Singapore, just to appreciate and think about the finer things in life. He is addicted to coffee, the high after drinking coffee, and basketball. Although he looks skinny, he is quite buff.
Kyle Foo [it Director]
There once was a person named Kyle
Who approached problems with a smile
He says in a blitz
“S’ok guys, I’ve got this”
And beguiles you with his style.
Jael Tan [Moch Coordinator]
Loud, crazy and half-exasperated most of the time, it’s hard to miss Jael with her squeaky voice and laughter. Don’t be mistaken by her “favourite” expression (see photograph), she actually thinks you’re really funny (well, most of the time) and loves to bring fun, joy and laughter to those around her. She promises to do her best to brighten your day (especially when you need it) and to spread the school spirit through MOCH (Read MOCH ^o^)!
Lin Yulong [Moch Coordinator]
Boisterous, noisy, lively. Maybe not. But, assuming a calm disposition, you can often see him pondering on the deep things in life. Don’t be fooled by his serious exterior; your friendly MOCH coordinator is actually very approachable once you get to know him. A believer in small things within practical limits, he puts his friends close to his heart and hopes to bring about positive changes during his term. “Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.” Sometimes, his shyness prevents him from doing what he thinks should be done, but he's working on it!
With a predilection for great writing, he has also been trying very hard to read widely. To date, his favourite books range from A Thousand Splendid Suns to Animal Farm to I Am Malala. He'll be channelling the creative juices he's gained from reading towards the next MOCH issue, so do watch out! :)
