Social & Relations
The Social and Relations Committee (SnR) primarily seeks to connect and build strong bonds between the Council and the Student Body, as well as between each and every member of Hwa Chong. A two-pronged approach is adopted in fulfilling this aim; firstly by uniting and promoting cohesiveness amongst and across the respective faculties (Apollo, Artemis, Ares, Athena), and secondly via the establishment of platforms for student representation. The committee also undertakes the responsibility of creating an exciting and dynamic school environment by carrying out school-based initiatives that revolve around National Education, as well as ad-hoc events focused on making school life more vibrant for staff and students alike. This eventually culminates in the forging of the Hwa Chong spirit, where Hwa Chong transcends boundaries to be a home for all to identify with.
Andrew Lau [Artemis Fac head]
An ordinary-looking boy (perhaps eccentric-looking at times with his pair of transition lens spectacles on) in 14S65 who looks boring, he is secretly humorous and enjoys the company of his peers. Known by some as “Prince Casey” and “Laukia”, he may look easy-going but do not belittle his passion in doing something he truly enjoys. He values friendship and dares to take on challenges thrown at him. He may not be that proficient in singing, dancing and cheering, but he certainly enjoys the SODACHE segment of the unique Hwachong culture. Inspired by the lyrics from 《只为那爱我愿》, he has taken a few leaps of faith since the year 2014, trying out many new things in life, and the latest leap of faith has landed him into the role of the Artemis Faculty Head. He is certainly aware of the bumpy road ahead, but he is prepared to give it all and he hopes that “never will we ever forget all the times we had in Hwachong” is what everyone will graduate with!
Lee Kay Han [Apollo Deputy Fac Head]
Fun-loving and bordering on complete lunacy he is extremely energetic and cannot stay still or keep quiet under normal circumstances. Loving to sing and dance, he spends a lot of his free time doing so in order to achieve the gold standard of performing. He also spends a lot of his time writing, albeit unrefined and arbitrary, and can occasionally be found on his blog :-))))
He is very friendly and approachable so please do not hesitate to talk to him! He likes all things artistic so if you want to talk about anything artsy don’t be shy - he might know more than you think ;-)
James Wong (Apollo Fac Head]
Also known as pewpew by many of his peers, James is an individual who is never afraid to share his opinions and views with others. Pewpew is also one who enjoys the company of his loved ones (and food) and is willing to go the extra mile to help others :] Do look for him if you need a listening ear or for someone to finish your food for you ;)
Being a shooter during High School, pewpew has little experience in administrative work and the organising of large-scale events. However, he believes that with the right mindset and optimism, he will be able to learn and gain from this whole experience. Afterall, “a smooth sea never made a skilful sailor”.
Ang Yu Jia [snr Sec-Treas]
She simply loves the feeling of being inspired by the people and music around her, as inspiration provides her with time, space and hope. And she too, wishes that she can give back and grow to be some sort of inspiration for those around her, especially to those who care for and love her. She believes that everything happens for a reason, and that the only limits in life are the ones we make. In the midst of chaos, turn your head to the sun, and let the shadows fall behind you!

Contrary to popular beliefs, he is actually Chinese.
He is a warm and approachable individual who knows no limits to have fun and go fishing. He also values trust and humility above everything else, willing to go all out for his friends.

Rachel Lim [Artemis Deputy Fac Head]
With an MBTI ratio that is excessively skewed toward extroversion, it’s hard NOT to notice Rachel’s presence. Just close your eyes and listen, and she’ll be the one whose voice can be heard even though she’s two floors above you and three blocks away. She suffers from an overwhelming need to move her mouth and hence can usually be found eating or talking. Mostly talking. Unfazed when she cannot find a conversation partner, Rachel simply talks to herself until a suitable person comes along, so don’t worry about her sanity if you see her doing so. Loud, very opinionated and extremely shameless, Rachel may seem too overwhelming to approach, but please do so anyway as she loves meeting new people and making new friends :)
Despite being known as sin(e) by most of her friends, Rachel does NOT like to do math. Rather, she loves spending time with her friends, listening to music and participating in activities that involve the use of her endless energy supply. If you are ever lucky enough to catch her during one of her rare quiet and reflective moments, she’s usually found reading dystopian novels or writing poetry. Living by the motto “Go big or go home”, she’s always on the go and is insanely driven when working toward her goals. She’s hopeful about her term in the 41st, and looks forward to brightening up your school life with her bubbly nature!
Crystal Chong [Athena Deputy Fac Head]
Brimming with unbridled optimism and a zest for life, Crystal is one passionate girl who believes in living each day to the fullest. She hopes that she can brighten up the days of her friends with a sincere smile and genuine hello :) While she may seem clumsy and slightly blur at times, she places full faith in her friends to be there for her just as she supports them in other ways as well. When she isn’t working past midnight on Council and Faculty Committee work, she indulges in poetry, music and fruit salads. She is truly determined to give at 120% in all that she does for her term this year! :)
Chan Chia Ler (Athena Fac Head]
Chia Ler is a fun-loving, easy going guy that enjoys the company of his friends. He loves putting smiles on the faces of others and believes in finding joy in whatever he does. :)
Although he may be a little playful and talkative at times, he is experienced in the art of self-restraint and self-discipline, evident from his ability to stay serious and quiet for prolonged periods of time when the need arises.
Christine Wong [Ares Deputy Fac Head]
Urban Dictionary describes Christine as ‘one with unlimited power and potential’. An example would be ‘if only I had a Christine, I could do anything!’ With that she believes that she can look beyond any mountain she’s faced with, as long as she keeps her cheerful disposition! Also enjoys cooking and feeds quite a lot of hungry people around in her batch; it’s always more blessed to give than to receive :-) Her eye circles have been mistaken to be eye make up for more than 11 times to date :( Immensely thankful for her family and friends who always bring her back to where she should be :’)
Ng Yong Hong (Ares Fac Head]
Yong Hong is always taking things in his stride and believes in working hard to attain his goals, no matter how impossible they seem. While he may appear playful at times, he knows clearly when to exercise self-discipline. He is ready to take on future challenge with open arms.
Jervis Chan [Project Coordinator]
Jervis looks stern, but don't let his appearances fool you! He is actually a really fun loving guy, always telling cold jokes to lighten the mood.
He is an avid fan of manga, an 'otaku' if you must, reading manga ranging from 'One Piece' to 'Naruto' to 'Bleach' to 'Toriko' to 'Fairy Tail' to 'Beelzebub' to 'Beelzebub Bangai Hen' to 'Ao no Exorcist' to 'Shokugeki No Souma' to 'Nisekoi' to 'UQ Holder' to 'Katekyo Hitman Reborn' to 'Soul Cartel' to 'Soul Eater' to 'Girls of the Wild' to 'Noblesse' to 'D.gray Man' to 'Fuuka' to 'Yotsubato!' to 'Magi' to 'Kuroko No Basuke' to 'Detective Conan'. These are just a small fraction of the manga that he reads.
Besides loving manga, Jervis also loves Science and American Sitcoms (e.g Modern Family), so if you share the same interests, do approach him!
Jervis is now attached to Green Council, and he is really passionate about saving the environment! So if you have any plastic water bottles, please recycle them, he would really appreciate it!
Samuel Tan [Project Coordinator]
Commonly addressed as Sam Tan by his peers because of the existence of multitudes of Samuels, including one in Council, he struggles between maintaining an enthusiastic and helpful image as well as a sensitive and emotional profile. He fulfils your needs by hyping you up when you need that boost or lending a listening ear when you are down. He likes to listen to stories, so don’t worry about lengthy recitations (just treat him to his favourite soy milk afterwards). Don’t let his indifferent look bother you...He is just trying to act cool! He has an innate desire to help which is often challenged by his shyness. So please make things easier for him by stepping forwards to talk or at least, smile at him!
Xie Han Keong [Project Coordinator]
Han Keong cannot describe much about himself in third-person because he keeps to himself and is really honest. But if you ask him a question he’ll answer you with a smile.
Bryan Tan [Project Coordinator]
Bryan fell in love with music ever since he was exposed to various musical instruments when he was 4. He enjoys playing the piano, listening to music in his free time he considers himself a delicate balance of both. He treasures his friends and cherishes loyalty and honesty. He hopes that he would be able to serve the student populace with his all and be able to grow together with his fellow Councillors in the year ahead.
