Jason Tan (welco Treasurer]
Jason is often described as a quiet and awkward guy, like the awkward(est) guy you have ever met. He believes in the beauty of not disturbing others and peace. So if he doesn’t say hi when he spots you, don’t feel sad, because he doesn’t feel like disturbing your peace xD But when you get to know him better, he is actually quite playful and cheeky at times :P
He is interested in band music, and he has always dreamed to be a good horn player, so much so that the list of songs on his phone are mostly band music. So if you are looking for a person that knows pop music and singers, Jason is definitely NOT the person to look for. Other than music, Cantonese dramas are at the top of his favourite list, and he hopes to be able to spend more time catching up on Hong Kong Dramas :) If you ever see him in school, do say hi, and he will give you his normal awkward smile! :)
Kenny Chan [welfare coordinator]
Hi! I’m Kenny, I love anime and pokemon. I’m a round-headed boy and my 17th birthday cake will fall upon me this year. However, don’t let these minor details fool you, I’m a diligent worker and a friendly person (even if I don’t look so). Do talk to me if you want to be friends :)
Gan Yun Min [welco Secretary]
Bubbly, exuberant and often seen as a girl who’s full of energy, Yun Min hopes to brighten up someone’s day if they are feeling down and infect people with positive vibes ☼. She likes to bake, swim or do any DIY related projects in her free time! Through joining Council, Yun Min hopes to be able to serve the student population wholeheartedly and ensure that everyone enjoys their school life in Hwachong. To do her best and serve with zest is what she hopes to achieve, and if you need any help or any lame jokes to brighten up your day, do approach her as your welfare is her affair ☺
Lim Chun Han [welco chairperson]
A friendly individual who enjoys being around people, he is one who values camaraderie a lot. He also has an irresistible temptation for sushi and watermelon. Known to close friends as “Flat Top Han”, he once had a haircut that featured perfect 90-degree angles. Though it is a thing of the past now, it is still something that is uniquely him. He also enjoys photography in his free time and is in the process of honing his skills to get better with practice. He is a tough believer that hard work can make up for talent and will do his best in whatever challenges he takes on.
Hong Sung Jin [Welfare Coordinator]
Despite being called by the nickname of “the Korean” by friends, Sung Jin was never the typical Korean, although her ajumma side of her comes out more often than not. She likes listening to music and singing (albeit terrible at it). She might not be the best in studies, but she always tries her best not to disappoint her peers and teachers. Although appearing to be annoyed at the whole world, don’t misunderstand, that is just her neutral expression. Your affair is her affair, and she will do her best to take care of the students’ welfare.
Welfare
A closely-knit team, the Welfare Committee (WelCo) aims primarily to serve the school with all sincerity in heart and dedication, by implementing effective and feasible welfare initiatives and ensuring that the needs of the student population are addressed and well taken care of. Adopting an objective stand, the committee serves as a bridge of communication between the school administration and student population; To provide a listening ear to students and to voice their desires to the school, and to explain the school’s stand and rationale to the students. Through this link, the Welfare Committee hopes to establish understanding and achieve transparency between both entities. In essence, the committee strives to create a more conducive environment, to make the Hwa Chong experience more comfortable and memorable for both staff and students alike. Because in WelCo, “Your Welfare is our Affair”.
Pamela Koh [Welfare Coordinator]
Pam to most people, she seems relatively quiet and serious until you start talking to her, where she will start talking about anything and everything under the sun! An astronomy enthusiast, she loves stargazing and reading about astronomy stuff. A classical musician, she loves playing in orchestras, chamber groups and listening to most types of music. A food enthusiast, she’ll travel distances just to eat good food!
She goes by 3 life mottos: YOLO, Don’t Worry be Happy & Anything free is good (unless it’s free candy from strangers then DON'T TAKE IT)
Leeu Jun Jie [Welfare Coordinator]
Known as Leeu to most of his friends, Jun Jie finds joy in making friends, which is made easy through his easygoing and somewhat eccentric nature. Just as eccentric as his hair. He is a fun-loving individual who will always try his best to find fun in whatever he does. Has a rather strange haircut. Who is his barber? Would we ever find out? Perhaps that is a reason why he is in the 41st welfare committee, and he will strive to do his best to cater to students’ welfare needs and wants. He likes spending time with his friends, enjoys playing ball sports, and sometimes plays the piano to find inner peace. Anyway, if you’re bored enough to be reading this, do say hi and talk to him if you bump into him in school. Fun guaranteed :)
Melvin Ng [Welfare Coordinator]
You could almost always spot Melvin with a bright smile on his face, and even when faced with troubles he would try his best to make the people around him happy. His bubbly personality is not the only trait he has. He is also known for being a sincere friend, who is always there for his friends when they need a listening ear. Rather than having many distant friends, Melvin prefers having a close relationship with a group of friends, making sure that these friendships last forever. Melvin believes that cherishing every moment of your life is much more important than getting too carried away while accomplishing tasks on his to-do list. With his energy and sincerity, he wish to bring joy to every student in the school and also serve the school with a sincere heart! Remember to look out for the coming Open House as he wants to show you the vibrant culture of the school and sincerely wishes you to join the Hwa Chong family!
Soh Zheng Yang [Welfare Coordinator]
Zheng Yang is often described as a noisy dude but he is someone who has the abilities and capabilities to cheer you up and bring joy to everyone around him. On a serious note, he is very solemn and concentrated when embarking on every allocated task. He regards himself as an “Econs warrior” as his passion truly lies within the realm of Economics. Inspired by one of the lines in 《情真情深》：凭一份真挚的心，为黄城而努力，不管途中遇到多少打击, he certainly knows that the journey ahead is tough but with him being adventurous and optimistic, this journey will be one that is rewarding. Right now, he wants to call upon all students to join the Hwa Chong Family for Mid- Autumn Festival Celebration and together, we will forge a firm and enduring bond!
Lu Liang Hao [sales executive]
About as comfortable speaking in front of people, as he is on a running track (not very comfortable at all), he apparently looks perpetually tired, and has already received “well-wishes” from friends and family to not pass away… yet. His sleep cycle is “sporadic” at best, and he expends more energy staying awake in lectures than actually thinking, but he’s hopeful of eventually getting the hang of it. He has much love for his peers, perhaps even taking the term “touchy-feely” too literally… He believes that council can make HC life more fun and enriching, and strives towards that end. Feel free to talk to him in real life to find out more! :)
Isaac Ng [sales executive]
Appropriately inappropriate, your friendly neighbourhood sales exec is always ready to go the extra mile for everyone (even if it means handling your badly timed “Hi can I loan a blazer”s). You can count on him to brighten your day with his smile or his incessant eccentricities. He wishes he weren’t so tall because of the numerous collisions his head has had with those pesky low-ceilinged double decker buses. And also that his feet were slightly smaller so that the sneakers with the nice designs would have his size (size 12 as of now). He may not be the smartest guy around but you can count on him to be there to lend a helping hand / ear / shoulder! Unless you spell his name wrongly, of course.
